Hooray for Phoebe

by Patsyfox on October 8, 2009

“Short, sharp and streamlined” was how my journalistic hero Suzy Menkes described the black leather dress which opened the Celine Spring 2010 runway show in Paris on Monday.  How I’d like to be described as that.  Short?  Check.  Sharp?  Well I was once described as sharp-as-a-tack (does the fact that it was said by someone who looked like they wanted to hit said tack with a hammer negate it?)  Streamlined?  Never.  I have three books on how to clear my clutter.  I would read them if only I could think through my brain fog and remember in which pile in which room they were located.  But I digress.

Dear Phoebe,

What took you so long?  It’s four years since you left Chloe to spend time with your kids.  Seriously – you didn’t get sick of them before this?  Admittedly, I don’t have children, but when I spend time around others’, I am gagging to get away within two hours. Four years?? And P.S. Chloe caught fugly in your absence.

But here you are back, in the guise of Celine, and isn’t it fabulous to see your lovely style on the runway again.  Soft leather t-shirts with split sleeves?  I die.  I would also die over the other exquisite utility-chic pieces – square shaped do-it-all dresses which lace up the front; the elongated sleeveless trench that pleased the crowd so; the high-waist mannish trousers, etc, were it not for the desert-inspired palette. Shades of beige from flesh to khaki, olive, camel, tobacco & tan – did you deliberately fan through my personal colour wheel & choose all the colours I wear to the doctor’s when I’m trying to get a fake medical certificate?? Sheez. Thank god for the stripe dress is all I can say, and I will be writing a letter to Net-A-Porter post-haste to implore them to order it.

It’s good to have you back Phoebes.

Love, Patsyfox

P.S. Can I come over and interview you next year for my masters research? – I hope you didn’t think that crack about your kids was serious?
