It started with a wish.

Back in school I was nothing if not consistent on my report cards – very intelligent, can’t spell, very messy, talks too much, daydreams a lot.  I could never figure out if the last one was a good thing or not.  I think I now have conclusive proof that it was.

I’ve been the world’s biggest fan of Bil Donovan for quite some time now and spent the first half of last year wondering how I’d deal with the rejection if I wrote to him and asked to meet him when I visited New York last June, and he said no.  I needn’t have obsessed for 6 months – or the 3 weeks that the email sat in my drafts folder waiting for me to get jazzed enough on wine to press send – because I received a fabulously welcoming YES.

Fast-forward to June and I am making my way through Soho on the way to Bil’s Tribeca studio, folio under my sweaty armpit (it’s New York in June, duh), ready to talk pencils with The Man, and get a private critique of my own work – gulp.  It was fabulous, he was fabulous, and for the 2 hours that I spent with him, I was fabulous too.  The heat and excitement had clearly gone to my head because as I was preparing to leave I said “Bil, I have one more crazy idea – I want to get you to Melbourne to give a Masterclass!”

He may well have agreed with my teachers at that point that I was a dreamer, but I have the ridiculously huge excitement and pleasure to announce that I will be holding a 2-day Masterclass with the fabulous Bil Donovan as part of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, on March 23rd & 24th.  The Masterclass is part of the LMFF Cultural Program, but not only that – I’ll also be interviewing Bil on stage at the LMFF Business Seminar on March 21st.  Oh and did I mention being his host around Melbourne-town?  I hate to boast*, but…

Stay tuned for full information about what will be a drawing-life-changing event (trust me, he is amazing), plus the full interview finally, in the coming week.  Brought to you by The Patsyfox Drawing Salon, with special help from Illustrators Australia.

You did it!! So happy for you. If there’s a chance you could hold a spot for me also that would be amazing.

You bet I will! I know, it’s stupidly exciting ; ) I’ll let you know when the finer details are sorted, but a place is yours.

Is there any criteria for joining the masterclass? I would love to be in the presence of the fabulous Bill, after all we have heard about him!

Patsyfox 01.20.13 at 4:48 pm

Absolutely you must bask in his glorious presence! There’s no criteria, but I would suggest some drawing experience, which you have, so you’re fine. It will be quite different to my classes – live models, and he may just not allow erasers…!! I’ll hold a place for you so you can decide : )

OMG!!!!
You are AMAZING!
Can I attend? Do I have enough experience? Is there room for me?
I nearly choked on my lunch when I read this!!!

Fantastic Angie! I just ordered Bil’s book to study! (looks like they have banned your use of his image?)

Patsyfox 01.21.13 at 4:29 pm

How do you mean? It’s still there? Bil supplied images to me to use for LMFF so it’s fine. And great idea to order the book – I was going to suggest to participants to do that, and he said he’d sign them on the day : )

Couldn’t see image yesterday, but it’s back today! Sorry ’bout that!
