Keeping it local

by Patsyfox on August 21, 2009

I’m always happy to see drawings in print anywhere.  When they make it onto the cover of a magazine like Vogue, I am ecstatic.

So happy was I then to see the 50th anniversary edition of Vogue Australia not only come with an illustrated cover, but a set of 4 to collect!!

I would just like someone to explain to me then, why the 50th anniversary of an Australian publication, touting its virtues as promoter of all things Australian, featured on its cover illustrations by a British illustrator?

We have so many amazing illustrators right here in Australia: Kat Macleod, Rebecca Wetzler, Jayson Brunsdon (does anyone remember the “Follow Me” cover he illustrated?  He is brilliant), and Patsyfox for godssake!!

Je ne comprends pas.

Gosh I couldn’t agree more! Support Australian talent! It’s hard for us to get recognition as it is.

I don’t understand why magazines don’t have covers with fashion illustrations more often. They’re so unique and novel – I would definitely buy them straight away!

I agree! I think loads of people would buy them – and keep them forever!! Perhaps we can blame Anna Wintour (why not?), since she got the whole celebrity-cover ball rolling….
