Got my mojo workin’

by Patsyfox on December 31, 2013

New Years eve fashion illustration

I seem to be hearing a lot of people saying that they can’t wait for 2013 to end.  Personally, I’m relishing every last second.  My mojo has been working in overdrive all year and I’ve had the luckiest and best year in a very long time.  I’ve worked like a battery hen and at times lived like a hermit, but have loved every minute.  The wonderful Bil Donovan sprinkled his magic dust on me in March and it still hasn’t worn off.  Thank you Bil.

Just some of the highlights include: Persuading LMFF to bring Bil Donovan to Australia, being his personal Melbourne host, then holding a 2-day fashion illustration masterclass at the Abbotsford Convent; Being accepted to join the fantastic Illustration Room agency, who now represent me in Australia, Illustrating the Little Black Dress Project book for the very lovely Cheryl Lin of Business Chic; Continuing to teach people the joy of fashion illustration at the Patsyfox Drawing Salon and RMIT; Becoming a regular illustrator for the fabulous Elle magazine; Illustrating a Xmas brochure for Harpers Bazaar and Cosmopolitan Singapore; Producing illustrations for Citizen K magazine in Paris…need I add more?  Well I would except there’s a champagne glass winking at me.

I see no reason for the fabulousness to stop now, so I’m running full tilt into 2014.  I wish you all the very best of years, luck, and everything that rocks your world.

X

Spanks very much Santa

by Patsyfox on December 25, 2013

Xmas kinky fashion illustration

I’m not a fan of Xmas songs of any kind so I can’t recall if that song says it does or doesn’t matter if you’ve been naughty or nice…so to be sure I covered bases and have been both.

So come on Santa, it’s Xmas morning and my arms are a little too empty.

Spanks.

Admittedly the horse has already bolted on ordering portraits to delight others on Xmas morning, but you can always marvel in what you could have given… or slide in under the gate (my personal favourite) by giving a gift certificate!  And for the lovers of four-legged friends, I also draw pets.  Just sayin’

For a touch of glamour and art for your walls, you could also consider checking out my brand new Etsy store!  Where you will find tasty treats like this…

Black is black

Elle_magazine_Comme_Black_fashion_illustration

According to my latest fragrance illustration for Elle magazine, it’s all about black.  Nowhere more-so than in Melbourne, where for once we don’t have to feel out of step for wearing head-to-toe black in December.  We’re not just wearing black because we’re cool (and of course us Melbournites are), we’re wearing it to absorb every possible ounce of warmth should the sun show its face.  We’re wearing it because we mourn.

Summer – the season Melbourne forgot.

All I want for Xmas…

by Patsyfox on November 26, 2013

Elle magazine xmas fashion illustration

I’m pretty sure everyone in the neighbouring suburbs heard me screaming expletives last Friday when I ripped the December issue of Elle magazine Australia out of the postman’s hands, peeled open the back page as I flew down the hallway to pop the kettle on…and saw someone else’s name credited as the illustrator.  Let’s just say I bypassed the stove and went straight to the liquor shelf…

The illustrations, the writing, the layout… mine, mine, MINE!!

Thank you.

Shop like a Michi Girl…

by Patsyfox on November 15, 2013

Le Shop Guide Paris cover

Aimez-vous magasiner?  Oui! Oui beaucoup!  Hmm, four years of french lessons and I still had to google how to say that?  Whatever the language, yes I love to shop thank you very much.  And there’s no finer place to melt your credit cards than Paris.  I should know – in my past life as a designer I was paid to fly to Paris (amongst other places) four times a year to… shop.  Don’t hate me.

So I did in fact have a couple of favourites to throw into Michi Girl’s pot when this book was being created.  Whether or not I threw them in early enough is another matter – times/dates/deadlines/don’t-bore-me-with-such-details.  Clearly it didn’t matter because this very adorable perfect-size-for-the-handbag book is packed with every insider’s tip you could need for shopping your way through Paris, peppered of course with the fabulous Michi wit.

The only thing that could make Le Shop Guide better would be some illustrations by the wonderful Kat Macleod.  Oh wait – it has those!  Jackpot.  You can buy it amongst other places from the Michi Girl shop.  Or if you have lightning fingers you can write to me and maybe, just maybe, if you say something to me in french (or something that looks like it), I’ll send you one of the two copies the lovely folks at Penguin Books have been kind enough to give to Patsyfox readers.  Lickety split kids!

Tangled up in blue at The Salon

by Patsyfox on November 14, 2013

Blue fashion

For absolutely no reason, drawing the beautiful Courtney at our live fashion drawing nights has inspired me to draw in fineliner and ink.  Go figure.  I used to snatch fineliners from the tender hands of students after watching them ruin one drawing after the next, until one day someone gave me a fineliner so fine only dogs could see it.  Or something like that.  I was won over by the beautiful, oh-so-fine-scratchy line, and that was that.

Splatterfest Sunday

Stencil and mask Fashion illustration class

Sunday Sessions at The Drawing Salon have suffered a little this year from lack of attention so for the last two sessions for 2013 I’ll be going all out with some experimental techniques to give illustrators something interesting to take home and put on the wall.  This Sunday I’ll be sharing my new love of stencilling paper, mixing it up with a bit of masking and general mess-making.  Fashion illustration classes with a difference. Email be to nab a spot, and bring a smock!
