Possibly because pastels rob me of the thing I love most in drawing – line – but more likely just because I’m bone lazy and will do anything short of ending my life to avoid cleaning tricky messes, I rarely use them.
Until recently when I was following one of the many golden tips gifted to me by the fabulous Bil, and deliberately worked with media I wouldn’t normally use…Enter the crumbling fuzzy mess that is chalky pastels. But this time I mixed them with one of my favourites, black indian ink, and made a Drawing Salon session out of it. I like the contrast of the hard and the soft, and I like the feeling of living on the edge. Well, sort of.

I love the look of fashion illustration done in pastels! You captured the softness of medium with great skill and emotion. It’s beautiful!
