Pretty in Pastel

Possibly because pastels rob me of the thing I love most in drawing – line – but more likely just because I’m bone lazy and will do anything short of ending my life to avoid cleaning tricky messes, I rarely use them.

Until recently when I was following one of the many golden tips gifted to me by the fabulous Bil, and deliberately worked with media I wouldn’t normally use…Enter the crumbling fuzzy mess that is chalky pastels.  But this time I mixed them with one of my favourites, black indian ink, and made a Drawing Salon session out of it.  I like the contrast of the hard and the soft, and I like the feeling of living on the edge.  Well, sort of.

Here’s my demos, otherwise known as making it up as you go along

I love the look of fashion illustration done in pastels! You captured the softness of medium with great skill and emotion. It’s beautiful!
