Soggy Sights

by Patsyfox on July 13, 2011

I don’t want to seem picky or anything, but is it so much to ask not to get water-logged on my summer holiday?  I didn’t think so either.

I did my fair share of going sans-umbrella, but really – what’s the point of carrying my new favourite hair-appliance-that-looks-like-a-sex-toy (you try explaining to the airport security guy why you removed the tong-bit off your curling wand), if you’re going to go out and have soggy flat hair in under 10 minutes?  Correct, there is none.

Fortunately for me, I have a healthy appetite for indoor activities.  I gave my credit card the thwacking of its life, and filled every unused space in my brain with images from the plethora of exhibitions I managed to squeezed into such a short time.  When I want to be, I am a machine.

Take my last day in London prior to flying home – Wake with the hangover from my luscious birthday dinner at the Connaught Hotel courtesy of Paul & Laurent, at which Paul and I, like the Sue-Ellens we are, drank ourselves quite literally under the table.  In no time we were on the tube to the V&A to take in The Cult of Beauty, and the Yohji Yamamoto exhibition.  Brilliant.  Next, onto the viewing at Christies where we built an internal layer cake of champagne, ice cream, frittata, coffee, and fruit juice, then onto the last but most incredible exhibition of the trip – Egon Schiele Women at the Richard Nagy gallery.  Sigh.

Just some of the tasty treats, beginning with the Tracey Emin retrospective at the Hayward Gallery in London…

Pleased to hear and see that the trip went well and that you were able to celebrate your birthday (hard) with friends. Well deserved considering the previous months events, a stressful time. It was obviously a great day/evening, but knocking off some poor patriotic englishmans Union Jack and running off with it may have been going just a little too far. Wonder if the Rockabilla dudes would approve : )

Rockers will always approve of such things ; )
Damn straight, it was a well deserved break, though somehow after it all I feel like I need a holiday – how does that work and how do I make that happen? Sigh.
I have no doubt your holiday is also a distant memory!

Egon Schiele is genius!

Yes! I was seriously jealous of myself. Seeing those drawings close up was incredible!

I can be like a machine too, if there is so much amazingness to take in, or many cheap vintage earrings to be bought (that’s what I got up to today… doesn’t compare with London, but never mind…)
Don’t forget about the Vienna exhibition at the NGV when you get back!! You can walk around with a watering can tied to your head and pretend you’re still in London.

Ah yes, well Melbourne is doing a pretty good impersonation of a London summer right now! And I will certainly be stalking the Vienna exhibition.
Cheap vintage finds sound great to me – it’s amazing where the energy can come from for certain activities…. ; )
