In terms of dress, if not the rest, I confess to a split personality. This inability to keep to one “look” has prevented me from belonging to a tribe, even if I feel very much affiliated with it, like Rockabilly for example (quiffs…siiiiiiiiiigh). But really, who could stand to wear the same look every day? Not me!
Last week Mimco commissioned me to bring to life their four muses for the new season, then I spent a night in store for a VIP shopping night where I got to meet the lovely Mimco customers and customise their chosen muse print. Most interesting was watching people choose which one they were – it was clear we have a muse on the outside and sometimes quite another on the inside…of course.

I love what I do pretty much all the time, but some weeks, some jobs, are well… just a little bit extra-exciting. So yes, illustrating for Jimmy Choo is definitely one of those! Last year I was commissioned by Jimmy Choo to create 10 illustrations for their 20th anniversary international press days, along with creating a hand-painted version of their logo.
A good time in Patsyland indeed.

Nothing much more French than being in Paris and being given a book called How To Be Parisian. Well sort of anyway. Loved the book, and loved the illustration on the front cover. Only thing I couldn’t understand was why there was no credit anywhere to be found – and trust me I shook that book to bits – for who the illustrator was. Incroyable!
Fast forward more than 6 months and I am commissioned to illustrate one of the authors, Caroline De Maigret, who is modelling the Winter 2016 collection for Blue Illusion. The campaign was shot in Paris and I was also asked to create a sketch of the essential Paris skyline as I saw it…
As it appears on the page in the catalogue which has just been released..

Hoorah for the one weekend of the year where excessive chocolate consumption is not just allowed but expected! The car is dutifully packed with chocolates for my mother who is, of course, sticking to her medically-required sugar-free diet (coughs), and packed alongside all the Lindt boxes is my running gear, because naturally there will be laps of the Bendigo lake in direct correlation to the amount of chocolate I eat. And if you believe that then you’ll believe anything. Happy Easter!

There’s simply not enough time in a year to tell you just how much I love it when work and pleasure collide. My idea of the perfect formula? My drawings + wine labels = enough said.
Last year I produced a series of illustrations for Catching Thieves wine, featuring a naughty lass escaping situations unknown. After an impatient wait they are now on the shelves for all to enjoy. Well actually one is still on the way…

If you’re a fan of Fashion Illustration and would love to learn how to whip up these stylish images for yourself, then consider joining us at The Drawing Salon when the new term of classes begins next week. For the first time, this year courses are 12-weeks long and will only run twice per year. I specialise in teaching people to draw even if they can barely hold a pencil, but this course would equally suit you if you have some skills, perhaps rusty skills…that you would like to get back on track or take further. Most materials including paper are provided, there are snacks and tunes, there’s nothing not to love about it. More info here.
And of course if you’re already pretty competent but want to reach higher and perhaps take on some professional work, then you could consider the Advanced course…

I hate to complain but the Oscars red carpet this year was a bit of a yawn. Thank god for Dorith Mous bringing a little drama to the situation! But wait, who designed the dress? (Insert the sound of crickets.) There is no mention to be found at this stage of who designed this gorgeous gown – not on Vogue, not on any of the many google links I pursued. Shame world, shame! Dorith you are no mouse.
Addendum! Thanks to the powers of social media (and an ex-student) the mystery is solved – this gorgeous gown was designed by Dutch designer Dennis Diem. And not only that, both the designer and the gorgeous wearer have thanked me and reposted my instagram pic. Loving social media today…

Last year I produced a series of illustrations for the stylish and art-loving folks at Le Louvre boutique in Melbourne, including one that was published in Vogue Brides, and another as collaboration with Paspaley Pearls– yes, it was a great run of work! The experience was so enjoyable the idea was born to have an exhibition of work in their gorgeous store, featuring garments from the store – which means an array from Lanvin, Mouret, Marchesa, Stephen Jones, it goes on… The exhibition opened last week and is on until March 12th, as part of the VAMFF Cultural Program.

For the seventh year in a row, I will be holding a special Fashion Illustration workshop as part of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF). This year the workshop focuses on fast-and-live fashion portraits which capture a person’s “look” in a quick sketch.
Quick fashion portraits are hugely popular – stylish sketches capturing a person’s look make great mementos and an excellent way of documenting fashion. How do you do it? What captures the person? How to do it quickly? Learn the fundamentals of fashion illustration and how to create these sketches, includes live-model sketching. Snacks and materials provided.
Why don’t you come spend a day learning how to capture someone’s style and look quickly, as a fashion illustration? Above all, it will be fun!

My Bridal Sketches line gives me the opportunity to draw many beautiful dresses but there are always some that are my faves. Maybe it’s the lovely personality of the bride also, like this one. I particularly love the touch of the heirloom veil, the old with the new. Possibly also because I have drawn all the sisters in this lovely family as they marry.
