Pussies Galore at Pimp my M.U.F.

Pussies Galore Ukulele

If you’ll be in Melbourne this Friday 1st March and nothing too important to do around 6-8pm, why not get yourself down to Bar 303 on High st Northcote, to the opening of this year’s Pimp my M.U.F. exhibition?

Appreciate the weird and wonderful ways that Melbourne’s artistic community has pimped out their ukuleles, and vote for your favourites (ahem – mine).  The exhibition is part of the Melbourne Ukulele Festival, and will be on show at Bar 303 until March 31st, after which time it will mosey on down to Art at Spring st, Melbourne CBD from 2nd to 3oth April.  Oh, and they’re for sale!

Check out more of the ukes on the Pimp my M.U.F. facebook page, and while you’re at it, why not check out the Patsyfox Facebook page, and show it some love?  You know you want to…

Psst, peek on Instagram (@patsyfox) to see alternative views, and work in progress.

Ripped that joint

by Patsyfox on February 18, 2013

Lick the Stones

Purely in honour of The Monkey Men’s Rolling Stones tribute gig last night at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne.  They ripped that joint!

Very awesome gig and even better to be surrounded by people who find those songs as much fun as I do.  And who knew Tim Rogers would look that good with his shirt off!  Does he work out now??  I think I love him just a little bit more…

But note to the middle-aged guys in polo shirts reliving their youth:  Yes I can see you in my peripheral vision trying to catch my eye and motioning to dance.  The answer is no.  I don’t do polo shirts, not even on Ryan Gosling, and certainly not on a middle-aged dude who is drunk and can’t dance.  Enough said!

Whole lotta love

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

I hope you get lots and lots of (insert your wish here).

I’d love to stay and chat but I have to get back out to the mailbox to wait for the postman.

Paris vs Tokyo

The pattern in my life seems to be looming deadlines which reach a crescendo while the rest of the world and my friends in particular seem to be enjoying public holidays and/or extended holiday periods.  Xmas/New Year anyone?  Australia Day perhaps?  Yep, it was me, the pencils, and my indoor tan.  Just as well my work actually doesn’t actually feel like work…

So, hot off the press are these lovely Skipping Girls, created for the fabulous Skipping Girl Bags collection.  Guess where the Skipping Girls are?

Back in school I was nothing if not consistent on my report cards – very intelligent, can’t spell, very messy, talks too much, daydreams a lot.  I could never figure out if the last one was a good thing or not.  I think I now have conclusive proof that it was.

I’ve been the world’s biggest fan of Bil Donovan for quite some time now and spent the first half of last year wondering how I’d deal with the rejection if I wrote to him and asked to meet him when I visited New York last June, and he said no.  I needn’t have obsessed for 6 months – or the 3 weeks that the email sat in my drafts folder waiting for me to get jazzed enough on wine to press send – because I received a fabulously welcoming YES.

Fast-forward to June and I am making my way through Soho on the way to Bil’s Tribeca studio, folio under my sweaty armpit (it’s New York in June, duh), ready to talk pencils with The Man, and get a private critique of my own work – gulp.  It was fabulous, he was fabulous, and for the 2 hours that I spent with him, I was fabulous too.  The heat and excitement had clearly gone to my head because as I was preparing to leave I said “Bil, I have one more crazy idea – I want to get you to Melbourne to give a Masterclass!”

He may well have agreed with my teachers at that point that I was a dreamer, but I have the ridiculously huge excitement and pleasure to announce that I will be holding a 2-day Masterclass with the fabulous Bil Donovan as part of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, on March 23rd & 24th.  The Masterclass is part of the LMFF Cultural Program, but not only that – I’ll also be interviewing Bil on stage at the LMFF Business Seminar on March 21st.  Oh and did I mention being his host around Melbourne-town?  I hate to boast*, but…

Stay tuned for full information about what will be a drawing-life-changing event (trust me, he is amazing), plus the full interview finally, in the coming week.  Brought to you by The Patsyfox Drawing Salon, with special help from Illustrators Australia.

Gettin’ kitty with it

by Patsyfox on January 13, 2013

Gucci kitty

No news to anyone, I say there can’t be enough cats and kittens in the world.  This will probably be brought up when I’m found at the age of 95, eaten by my hungry hoard of cats, lying amongst a pile of books and sketches, purple hair splaying in every direction and iTunes still on shuffle. I don’t care!  Since I could walk I’ve been torturing my mother by bringing home stray cats – who can resist their beautiful feline features? Those little pussy noses!  Wittle whiskers!!

I love it even more when they make their way into high fashion.  This sketch is homage to my gorgeous and uber talented friend Paul Barry, one of many incredible images he art-directed for Gucci Perfectalina, meow.

Hung up

Why didn't you call?

It doesn’t seem that long ago that there were no mobile phones, and unless someone in your share-house could afford it, no answering machines either. Quelle horreur!  The best you could hope for was a flatmate who never went out and was really good at taking messages… Unlike today when it is painfully clear when you are not receiving phone calls.

I think at some point most of us have felt like this and wondered, why the %*!@ didn’t you call??

Out of the lolly jar

Xmas eve sexy girl

Gucci kitten sketch

There’s one sure-fire thing to keep my hands out of the lolly jar and off the wine glass, and that’s drawing.  So during the Xmas festivities, whenever possible, I cleared a table, pulled out my pencils, and drew.  It keeps my hand clean, so to speak. Nothing lovelier than hanging out with my mum and drawing at the same time.  Bless.

Lucky 13

Angie Rehe fashion illustration Lucky 13

What a hell of a year of blood sweat and tears!  But although I slid under the gate of every deadline I had in 2012, the point is I made it under the gate.  It’s how I roll.  But if there’s one thing I could wish for in 2013 – besides less work more sleep/become a calmer person/grow 2 inches – it’s to stroll through the gate, just sometimes.

There are already insanely exciting things stacking up for 2013 so I know it’s going to be a good one.  I hope it’s Lucky 13 for you too – have a great one!

Candy Xmas

by Patsyfox on December 22, 2012

Whoever thought it was possible to get sick of getting tarted up and heading out for drinks/chats/gigs/dates/parties/dinners?  Not me, that’s for sure.

And yet at the pointy end of this silly season I find myself almost there – unheard of!  The relentlessness of my hedonistic lifestyle of late has left me feeling like a kid let loose in a candy shop.  And yet unable to stop.

Happy Xmas everyone!  I’m off to rehab…
