Despite theoretically having more time on my hands at the moment (cough), I seem to be just as late as ever at pretty much everything. Like reporting on some of my favourite people and things seen at LMFF approximately 6 weeks ago.
Rising 5 was an exhibition of 3D photography in the Atrium at Fed Square. Photographed by Mark Ruff, and styled by Izabel Caligiore & Simone Ling, the photos featured designs from Dhini, J’Aton Couture, Ellison, Lui Hon, Richard Nylon Millinery, Nadia Napreychikov, Cami James, Madame Virtue & Co, and Metal Couture.
Trippy upon arrival, and even better after a couple of wines.
Spotted there if you pardon the pun were the lovely Leon & Anushka Smith from Strugnell Cole hairdressing.
I say there’s just not enough spots these days, nor turquoise trainers.
God knows I’ve learned my lesson from last year – there’ll be no “sugar-free this” and “sugar-free that” nonsense. I don’t care if Mum gets it from Clints Crazy Bargains or Aldi’s for godsake, just give me chocolate – now!
Plenty of time spent talking about drawing, plenty of time spent helping with drawings, plenty of time spent starting drawings, just not any time spent finishing drawings. I’m getting blue-fingers.

Or back to tonight, a little simplification of lines…
It’s no accident of nature that my ring finger remains as naked as the day I emerged from the birth canal, but I’ve often pondered it: Am I tricky to get along with? Selfish? Messy? Moody? Yes, yes, yes, and… YES.
But sketching away & listening to Tammy Wynette as I’ve just been doing, the truth dawned on me. Have you ever heard anything as far removed from women’s lib as a Tammy Wynette song??? And I grew up on this stuff! No wonder the thought of a marital contract has always left me a little, well, cold, while the sight of Germaine Greer wagging her angry finger makes me feel just a little bit…warm.
Tammy sings “I’ve been laying in bed thinking like a woman” (and I don’t think she means intelligently, rationally, fairly), while Germaine says “The house wife is an unpaid employee in her husband’s house in return for the security of being a permanent employee.” Cop that!
Regardless, I still love the Wynette. Especially when she stands in a sunken lounge in silver boots and lime green dress, in a wig like this.
What’s better than this last-breath-of-summer weather? I’ll tell you what’s better than 27 degrees in Melbourne – nothing!
Too much work of late has made for a very boring Patsyfox, so thank god for a sprinkling of LMFF launches, and a few stolen moments of soda poppin’ in the sun. Vodka-lime-&-soda-poppin, naturally.
I don’t want to promote laziness or anything, but it’s 27 degrees outside – that being the perfect Melbourne temperature – and I’ll be damned if I can make myself sit inside and draw, despite drawing being one of my 4 most favourite things to do.
Enter last night’s demo drawing to the lovely Creative Fashion Illustration students – a workshop in pastels. Never my favoured media – they are hella messy and there is no linework to be drawn with them – but I have to admit it was kind of fun getting in there with my fingers and making a bit of a pastel pie.
I may not have been blogging but I have certainly been drawing. From wine bottles to brides and break-neck speed demos for my lovely Patsyfox students, which, speaking of which, that sounds like an easy post……

You may remember the agonising decision I’ve been faced with of late – Is-it-2-is-it-1-if-it’s-1-which-one? etc.
Well after much vote-counting, which saw “BOTH” the clear winner, a last-minute visit to the pet store saw one in particular stare into my eyes and pretty much hypnotise me – gulp. Ladies and gentlemen – It’s a girl!!
Meet Frankie, who now that she’s home, appears to think I’m the scary monster from the deep, because up until 2 nights ago, this is all I’d seen of her (apart from when I hunted her down Alby Mangels style). Look very closely……
Here’s a hint – what you’re looking for is this ridiculously adorable (and terrified) little face…
What changed in the last 2 days is the result of a stressed visit to the pet store – enter kitten toys and kitten treats! My lounge room now looks like a kitten creche with all the love-buying toys you could imagine, but at least I’m getting my share of kitten-love. Success!
Now I just have to deal with the fact that ginger has been left on the shelf at the pet store….Enter guilt.
