Why don’t you learn to draw?

If ever you wished you could draw, and this must be one of the most common things I hear – apart from please stop talking – then now is the time.  New classes in Fashion Illustration are beginning next week, and for the first time ever, there are three levels running at the same time – Introduction to Fashion Illustration, Intermediate Fashion Illustration, and Advanced Fashion Illustration.  I’m excited, because I know over the next 8 weeks I’m going to see some incredible illustrations, and many happy faces as people realise what they’re capable of.

There are places left in each level, get on down to The Patsyfox Drawing Salon if you want to know more.  (The above pic is a mix of my rough unfinished demo drawings from the classes.)

Happy bunny

It’s been four years since the debacle that was Easter 2010 when my mother took me seriously when I said I don’t eat sugar, and didn’t buy me any Easter eggs.  So subtly but thoroughly did I shame and blame her for that, it’s been raining chocolate ever since.

Long may it reign – Happy Easter dear friends and readers!  I hope it’s a wonderful one for you.

It’s been a very, very good week.  How lucky do I feel to be one of three illustrators featured on the Vogue Australia website, illustrating my favourite looks from last week’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week?!  If you play your cards right you could be feeling just as lucky – The framed set of the three original artworks by each illustrator are being given away!  What are you waiting for?  Get that entry in!  You can do it here

Model Citizen

Citizen K French fashion magazine illustration

It’s not every morning that I wake up to an email from the art director of Citizen K International magazine introducing the magazine and asking me to illustrate for it.  So the day that it did happen was a very good day indeed… It’s no secret that I’m fond of all things French, so to be illustrating for an international magazine based not just in Paris but around the corner from my hotel de choice when in Paris, was almost too much excitement to bare.  How did I deal with it?  Champagne and online shopping, naturally!

La Dolce roulette

I’m getting to really like throwing paint at a drawing.  Results are random but that’s what’s so sweet, kind of like a safe and artistic Russian roulette.  Only trouble is, I now have the urge to throw paint at people… A whole new roulette game, I suspect!

This pic can be found in the current issue of Elle.

An Elle of a nice scent

Spending my Sunday evening perusing some of my recent work in preparation to load some hella-exciting new stuff, and to my dismay found some lovely little fragrance illustrations for Elle magazine which have been languishing without any love.  Just plain silly..

Where I reside!

On the street at Art Town.

The smell of paint spray cans in the air, art  being created on every corner, that was Art Town.  Our little live drawing session in the Cylk store was a lot of fun, and possibly the last chance I’ll get to draw the lovely Courtney Flanagan before she’s absorbed into the wide world of international fashion modelling – it was a good good day..

If you’re cruising down Chapel Street Sth Yarra tomorrow (Sunday) between 12pm to 2pm, consider dropping into the Cylk store at no. 497, where myself and three other lovlies from the Patsyfox Drawing Salon will be hanging out and drawing the lovely and ascendant Courtney Flanagan.  You can just say hi, watch over our shoulders, or sit down in the hot seat and have a draw!  Live fashion drawing – it’s good for your health.

This event, and the one next week where I’ll be drawing on-the-spot fashion portraits, are part of the excellent Art Town festival.  Get involved!

Winging it

by Patsyfox on March 12, 2014

As any of my students could attest, I’m a BIG fan of practice-makes-perfect.  This was never more true than in the case of liquid eyeliner, which has caused me more I-didn’t-know-at-the-time embarrassing moments than any other item of make-up:  There was the plain old drawn-badly/eyes not matching timeS, the annoying brands that don’t set properly when dry so at some point after leaving the house – and unknown to you – leave a mirror reflection on your upper eyelids, causing you to look like a demented clown when you look down or blink…Or my favourite, the time I was applying the eyeliner and was interrupted by a phone call, after which I shrieked “oh my god look at the time!”, grabbed my bag and left the house, not realising for 3 hours that I had one winged eye and one blank.  Yes that’s right – I dare you to maintain dignity in that situation..

My point being that by the time I did this lovely bunch of eye illustrations for L’Oreal Paris, I had the technique damn near sorted… You can find this page in the latest issue of Elle magazine.
